Dropping the socks

8 August 2021

Sonia Waddell

He was not an outcome… results-focused man. It was all about process, and like Justine said, all about the art of rowing.

He used to get us to do exercises, like, you would hold a… scrunch your socks up and hold them in your hand, and then just drop them.

And he would say, ‘No, you’re thinking about it’.

So you’d drop them again. ‘No, you thought about it again.’

And, you know, it was really, really hard sometimes to understand what Harry was getting at.

But again it was it was how he expressed himself with that feel, and, you know, it was amazing.

Harry chose me as a triallist for the under-23 team, much to the, I guess, shock of everyone in the rowing fraternity as I’d only been rowing for 3 weeks.
